The Málaga branch of the Camino Mozárabe de Santiago (GR-245) passes through Villanueva de la Concepción, which is the end of a stage. It is one of the most beautiful and demanding sections of the Camino in Andalusia, as it crosses the Torcal sierra.
The stages
- Almogía → Villanueva de la Concepción: about 18.5 km through the hills, among olive groves and farmhouses.
- Villanueva de la Concepción → Antequera: about 16.6 km and around 5 hours 45 minutes. It climbs to the Escaleruela pass (985 m), next to El Torcal, and has a very demanding descent towards Antequera. It is the hardest stage on this branch: set off early and carry water.
