Northern Málaga is one of Europe's great winter climbing destinations. El Torcal offers limestone climbing, and less than an hour away are El Chorro, Desplomilandia and Valle de Abdalajís, with more than 1,500 routes between them.
Climbing in El Torcal: regulations
- Climbing in El Torcal is regulated by the Junta de Andalucía (Resolution of 11 July 2018, BOJA no. 136) to protect the birds that breed on the cliffs: griffon vulture, peregrine falcon, golden eagle and Bonelli's eagle.
- Climbing is only allowed in authorised sectors and outside the breeding periods. Check the resolution and the Junta's "Guía de escalada sostenible" (sustainable climbing guide) before you go.
- Bouldering is prohibited in the Natural Site.
